We'll discuss a few examples of a common state of affairs: it would be helpful to be able to say that some quantities of interest behave (more or less) as if they were independent. And occasionally we can (more or less). An old conjecture of Alon and Spencer is among the victims. But more often we can't (but maybe you can).
